Muslims & Jesus

When we were led to establish a center at Oakwood University, we initially thought about naming it the Center for Christian-Islamic Relations. However, upon further thought we decided to go with Adventist-Muslim Relations for two reasons.

First, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is a denomination within the larger Christian family with a unique understanding of scripture (just like any other denomination). As such, we felt it best to state our specific identity in our title. By stating our denominational affiliation, our Muslim brothers and sisters who are familiar with the name immediately know that Adventists are Christians who observe halal, stress modesty and are committed to walking on the straight path.

The second reason for the name is uniformity. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has several centers around the globe that have adopted the name “Adventist-Muslim Relations,” and we felt that it just made plain sense to do the same.
