Allah

Unfortunately there are many Christians (and even some Muslim converts to Christianity) who believe that the Muslim God is different from the Christian God. However, that is not the position of CAMR-OU. The term Allah is the Arabic name for God, and is the name used by all Arab speakers whether they are Muslim, Christian or Jew.

It is true that Allah was the name given to one of the gods that were worshiped in the Kaaba, but the English term “god” also has its origins in pagan settings. The same is true with the terms theos and baal, both of which are used by the Greek and Hebrew writers of the Bible as names for the God whom we worship. Some claim that Allah is different since Islamic theology is not the same as Christian theology.

Here again, we must not forget that there are distinct differences in the theology portrayed in Catholic and Protestant Christianities, and even among Protestant Christians there are varied views about God. While there will always be some who refuse to believe that the Christian God is Allah, let’s not forget that members of all three Abrahamic faiths have agreed to live with the mystery of their unique interpretations of God for several centuries.
